Our community; our vision & values
There are currently 16 people living at Berry Park, ranging in age from 3 to 70. There are 10 adults and 6 young people, plus one dog, three ducks and a cat (officially a sitting tenant). Three of the children are home-educated, and three attend local schools/nurseries.
Most members are purchasing equity in the project, but we also have members who rent. Berry Park and the adjacent cottages were divided up into holiday apartments, which now have planning permission for residential use. Members have their own self-contained accommodation and share the garden and a communal living room which is used for meetings, meals, playing and partying.
In the garden there is a forest school area and a children’s playing field, a vegetable garden under development including no-dig veg beds, a polytunnel, a greenhouse and a small orchard. We have started planting trees as part of the planned Forest Garden, which we envisage forming a seamless link for wildlife to the adjacent Marsland Nature Reserve. We have just finished creating a 20 x 8 metre wildlife pond, which will be fed by the rainwater run-off from the roof. A lawned area and patio at the back of the house, has stunning views across the valley towards Cornwall, and is where members gather to have a drink, play games, play music or just to sit and soak up the peace and quiet.
